Nubia Roberts
Hi there, I’m Nubia Roberts—writer, creator of Persistent Inching™, — the voice and lived experience behind this work.
I did not arrive at this work through theory first.
I arrived here through a body that knew how to survive long before it knew how to feel safe.
Persistent Inching™ was born in the places where “Why haven’t you done better?” was never a simple question.
Where taking a risk did not feel exciting.
It felt dangerous.
Where moving forward did not feel like confidence.
It felt like stepping barefoot onto hot coals while my nervous system begged me to avoid.
I know what it is to look capable on the outside while quietly fighting battles no one can see.
To have intelligence, ability, ideas, and desire
—and still freeze when it is time to ask, choose, move, show up, or be seen.
I know what it is to want more for your life and still feel your chest tighten, your thoughts spiral,
your body shut down, and your courage vanish the moment a real step is required.
That kind of stuck is not laziness.
It is not weakness.
It is not a lack of ambition.
And it is not whatever else people may try to label it.
Sometimes, it is a body that has spent years bracing for impact.
A mind trained to scan for danger before it ever reaches for desire.
A woman trying to move while carrying pain inside her body, mind, and spirit.
I write for that woman.
The woman who is tired of being told to “just get it together.”
The woman who has been told to move on from what was never healed.
The woman whose childhood pain gets dismissed
because other people do not understand how long an unhealed wound can keep speaking through a life.
The woman who has lived through traumatizing things
and is still trying to build a life with the pieces that survived.
The woman who is not asking for pity, but for language.
Language to name what she feels.
Safety to tell the truth without being shamed for it.
A way forward that does not insult what she has lived through.
Support that does not shame her stagnation.
Persistent Inching™ is my answer to that woman’s desire for language.
It is not about forcing healing.
It is not about performing strength.
It is not about pushing yourself into visibility before your body can bear being seen.
It is about learning how to move in a way your nervous system can live with.
One honest inch.
One safe-enough step.
One choice that does not require you to abandon yourself in order to grow.
Through my writing, I explore survival, fear, self-trust, emotional repair, courage, identity,
and the work of becoming someone who no longer has to live only in protection mode.
This website is part of that work.
Here, I share reflections, essays, and resources for people learning how to honor where they have been
while still making room for where they are going.
My hope is that something here helps you feel less alone,
more understood,
and more supported to take your next inch.
Because sometimes one inch is not small.
Sometimes that first inch is the first proof that you are still here.
And sometimes, that is where a new life begins.
